What is Reiki?
Reiki (Japanese for 'universal life energy)i is a system of natural healing that originated in Japan and developed in 1922 by Mikai Usui, a Japanese Buddhist. It is based on the theory that life force energy (Ki or Chi) flows through us and all living things. When this energy becomes blocked it can cause illness and stress, alternatively when the energy is flowing we are more likely to feel good, at peace with a sense of well being.
Reiki may help in various ways by activating the natural healing process, including stress relief, anxiety, insomnia, it can be effective for most illnesses by helping to create deep relaxation and well being, Reiki is an holistic therapy and treats the body as a whole, emotionally and spiritually.
Having a Reiki treatment will involve the practitioner placing their hands unobtrusively around certain areas of your body. It is a very light touch and the positions will be held for up to five minutes at a time. You may feel heat or cold from the practitioner's hands or you may see colours, everyone is different. You do not have to believe in anything for Reiki to work for you.
You will be reclined on a treatment table, fully clothed and wrapped in a blanket (blanket optional). Treatment will take approximately 45 minutes along with a consultation for the first treatment.
You may feel very relaxed and at peace after a Reiki treatment, or you may feel energised, people are individuals so all experiences are different.
You do not have to be ill to receive Reiki, you may wish to take some time out for yourself. Reiki helps the body to release stress and tension, negative feelings, clear the mind and just relax restoring the natural balance of the body, mind and spirit.
